Day 01-02 :

Lanzhou – The Gateway

Arrive in Lanzhou, the "City of the Yellow River." Visit the iconic Waterwheel Garden and stroll across the Zhongshan Bridge. For the best view, take the cable car up Baita Mountain. In the evening, join locals on a noodle-slurping expedition for the city's legendary hand-pulled beef noodles (Lanzhou Lamian).

Day 03-04 :

Wuwei & Zhangye – Echoes of Empires

Dunhuang – The Desert Oasis

Explore the greatest treasure of the Silk Road: the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with millennia-old Buddhist art. Camp overnight in the Singing Sand Dunes, go sandboarding, and enjoy a sunset camel trek followed by a barbecue under the stars.

Turpan – The Land of Fire

Fly or take a high-speed train to Turpan, a verdant oasis in a scorching depression. Visit the ancient ruins of Jiaohe, see the ingenious Karez Well Irrigation System, and climb the Flaming Mountains.

Urumqi – The Crossroads

Journey to the regional capital, Urumqi. Immerse yourself in the vibrant cultures at the Xinjiang Regional Museum and wander through the bustling International Grand Bazaar for spices, knives, and crafts.

Day 13-15 :

Kashgar – The Legendary Heart

Take a scenic flight or train ride to the final destination: Kashgar. Feel the pulse of Central Asia in the Kashgar Old City with its labyrinthine alleyways. A: Absolutely! We welcome solo travellers. A single supplement applies for private accommodation, or you can opt to share with another same-gender traveller to avoid the fee.

Q: What are the accommodation standards like in Western China?

A: In major cities like Lanzhou, Urumqi, and Kashgar, we use high-quality hotels with international standards. In more remote areas like Jiayuguan and Turpan, the hotels are the best available locally, offering comfortable, clean, and modern amenities, though they may be simpler than in megacities.

Q: How do you handle dietary restrictions?

A: Please inform us at the time of booking. We can cater to vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary needs with advance notice. The cuisine in Xinjiang is heavily meat-based (lamb), so vegetarian options can be more limited but are always available with prior arrangement.

Q: What is the transportation like?

A: We utilise a private, comfortable vehicle for most of the Gansu leg. To save time and cover the vast distances, we incorporate China’s excellent high-speed rail network (Lanzhou to Urumqi) and a short domestic flight for the final leg to Kashgar. All internal flights and train tickets are included.

Q: Do I need a special visa for this trip?

A: You will need a valid Chinese Visa. For the Xinjiang region (Kashgar), no additional permit is required for standard tourist travel on this itinerary. However, you must register with the local police at each hotel, which your guide will assist with.

Q: What is the best time of year to go?

A: The best weather is from May to October. May, June, and September offer pleasant temperatures. July and August are hotter, especially in Turpan (“the Land of Fire”), but are still popular.
