Nyingchi Tour: The “Switzerland of Tibet”

7 Days

Discover the Soft Side of the Tibetan Plateau: Lush Valleys, Sacred Lakes, and Wild Peach Blossoms

Welcome to Nyingchi (Ch: Linzhi) —a hidden gem nestled in the southeastern corner of the Tibetan Plateau. Known as the “Switzerland of Tibet” and “Tibet’s Little Jiangnan,” Nyingchi offers a dramatically different side of Tibet from the arid, high-altitude landscapes of Lhasa and western Tibet. Here, at an elevation of just 2,900–3,100 meters, you’ll find dense forests, turquoise rivers, snow-capped peaks, and the only place on the plateau where massive wild peach forests bloom each spring.

Unlike much of Tibet, Nyingchi is characterised by its mild climate, abundant rainfall, and fertile valleys. The region stretches across the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, bordering India and Myanmar, creating one of the most biodiverse regions in Tibet. This is where the world’s deepest canyon meets China’s most beautiful snow mountain, where ancient glaciers coexist with subtropical forests, and where Tibetan Buddhist monasteries perch on islands in turquoise lakes.

The name “Nyingchi” itself means “Throne of the Sun” in Tibetan, reflecting its reputation for more moderate weather than the rest of Tibet. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy seasonal activities: spring outings among peach blossoms, summer camping by rivers, autumn hiking beneath golden forests, and winter soaking in hot springs while savouring stone pot chicken.

This tour combines Nyingchi’s natural wonders with Lhasa’s cultural treasures. You’ll begin in Lhasa for acclimatisation, then journey east through some of Tibet’s most stunning landscapes, returning to Lhasa with unforgettable memories of the plateau’s most verdant corner.
